Mike Peters is the only choice

Phill Mather - Sunday, 11 July 2010, at 1:16 pm
Listening to Declaration on vinyl. First time in many manuy years.

Struck me again what a great band the Alarm were / are and what a great singer Mike is.

If BC do get together again to tour - maybe to celebrate 30 years of the band or the re-release of the early albums, as Ian mentioned - then I think Mike should be invited to join the band as guest vocalist and guitarist.

Brucey could play Stuart's guitar parts, that he learned for 25 live, and Mike could do Brucey's bits (or as close as he can manage, or acoustic fill-ins, or whatever!).

More importantly though, the band would have a proper frontman again, and one not only with a great voice, but a kindred spirit.

Wouldn't it be awesome to see a full BC line-up again, with Mike shouting out the classics in Stuart's honour? Time feels right, doesn't it?

Well, who can remember a post/thread from 4 5 maybe 6 months ago about fans of certain groups who pay their band "first" to produce a record then put it out. . not "pay per view" but "pay per play"

Marillion work on that basis I think?

The thread on this before I slayted (Cursed) the theory of "pay for your band to work first". Are old/new bands becoming buisness's . . just like footbal.

Bands/gigs need to be financially viable but can still have heart in the performance - after seing Mike and the Alarm recently,I can assure you he still has a "BIG" HEART !

Alarm shows are up there with some of the best gigs ever - very powerfull, and it would be great to see Mike "honour and pay tribute" to Stuart for a gig or two,if all appropriate things could mabye be arranged for it to happen sometime - you never know ?

Mike's probably a good bloke and all, but I'm still part of that lot who would much prefer someone from the BC/Skids Family Tree fill the spot, i.e. Richard, Callum, or even Jamie, but that's me.

I am a Mike Peters fan with a passion but the odd song aside, he, or no one else for that matter can replace Stuart, so why try?

No one could ever REPLACE Stuart. Not what I meant.

I totally agree with Wayne and Phill. It's good when someone sings some BC and Stuart song as a tribute but it all ends here...!!!Stuart was Stuart,no one CAN come close to him!!!

I know this is a touchy subject but I'd love to see someone front a version of BC. I would never suggest that anyone can replace Stuart - I don't think a single fan would think that - but it's such a shame that things can't continue in a different format. The 25th Anniversary gigs were so special but it was hard work for the three of them - and let's not forget the new material.

I know the wounds were/are deep for some people but I think there is a possibility for the band to continue in a close enough format to still be called Big Country. Not sure if Mike Peters would even want to do it - he seems to be busy enough himself.

Hey Martin,
That brings up yet another point as to why priority must be given to those from the BC/Skids family tree - Mr. Peters seems content on concentrating on fronting various versions of The Alarm, while giving BC/S family tree members first crack kinda speaks for itself!

I'd rather see Big Country laid to rest myself but would have loved to have seen Bruce, Tony and Mark do something else in their own right.

I think if BC tour again Bruce should take lead vocal with Jamie 2nd guitar.I really dont think anybody would have a problem with this. And Bruce is a better vocal for BC sorry TB.

Mr Peters is favourite surely . . If Mike is to play with M, B, T, . . for how ever many shows or nights, I suggest tickets should only be available for people on this site. I mean members who pay and those of us who post every day and are counted and logged in Ian's data base for this site . . No outsiders and no in-betweeners . . "Real Fans Only" . . all behind closed doors.

What about new material from the four ? keep the BC theme slightly, whack some tunes together if its a hit open the doors to the world stage . . Slash and Duff left Axle and formed their new band, weren't quite G'Rs but all the ingrediants were there to cook a good pie . .

Can't say fairer than that Wayne. But then I enjoyed the Casbah Club stuff too - just great to hear the BC songs played live. True it's not the same, but it's good enough for me.

I know it's not the same - it never could be but I would hate to think that I couldn't be in a mosh pit jumping about to these songs ever again.

Gigs behind closed doors oh dear there are many people who have been "true fans" for a lot of years and quite simply don't post any more, because of late there has been a lot of posts that have not been what this site is about.

There has always been a warm welcome to old and new here and there is group of people I call my BC family, some I have known for over 20 or so years who were my penpals from the Country Club and some I have known for Just a short while. Each of those people bring somthing very special to my life just as the music and friendship of Big Country has.

Trouble is the BC folk tend to be very passionate and protecrive too, my theory on that on is you could not listen to such beautiful passionate music straight from the hearts of those who made BC and it not have a profound effect on your life.

Love to you All

Frankly, it depends on who from the BC/S Family Tree gets added to the lineup. If it's either Richard or Callum, then they do sole lead vocals. However, if it's Jamie, then Mark, Tony, and Bruce should share the lead vocal mike-besides, I'm looking forward to hearing Mark on lead vocal singing his contributions to the band!
