| Well I do remember buying this one in Herzogenrath, Germany at the Media Markt. Was studying in Maastricht, living on a boat, crazy times. I didn't like the sound first and Mark was not on the sleeve. When I found out he played the drums as a session drummer I couldn't believe it. Anyway Buffalo Skinners was a new start and the sound of NPLH is very original. Stuart must have been a brilliant person a chameleon otherwise I can't explain his musicality. X He couldn't do without Mark, Bruce and Tony. |

Bram I like the rarities version of Beautiful People a lot. The e-bow intro is really cool. The album version I just skip mostly when I listen to NPLH.
Favourite songs off this album.
Keep On Dreaming.
You, Me and the Truth
Into The Fire
Ships
Comes A Time
Hostage Speaks (although demo version of this is better too, IMHO)
I remember getting this album too...by mail order. You couldn't buy it in the shops here, it was never released. When I saw what they did with the Big Country logo I couldn't believe it. Horrible script??? What the f***????? I always loved the original BC logo. Glad common sense saw it restored for the BS album and beyond. |

NPLH is not my favourite album, but at the same time really special to me. I heard most of the songs for the first time at the convention in Dunfermline. The band were to do a short acoustic set, but did a full show then signing afterwards.
I remember going home with a new favourite song (and still is) - We're Not In Kansas. But I was also raving to my dad and my brother about Beautiful People. I couldn't believe how different it was, but still very much a Stuart song. I think now I prefer the Rarities version - the ebow really makes it shine, it seems to be used in a very different way to the other 'ebow' songs like The Storm. I'm not sure what the difference is (I'm not very musically gifted or knowledgeable) just that it has a totally different feel (maybe just 'happier' in line with the song?) |
