RegionalMag review of Bruce & Jamie gig
http://www.regionalmag.com/ gave Bruce & Jamie a rave review of their recent gig at The Great British Folk Festival
…”Next on Centre Stage were Bruce and Jamie Watson, both of Big Country fame performing as a father and son duo. I was not sure what to expect because I had seen Big Country live and they were awesome. So a Folk Festival is more than 400 miles away from that gig! (Pardon the pun). Sporting a range of guitars and mandolins, they certainly looked the business. With a set list that included Amsterdam, Forever In My Dreams, Rosina and No Mercy, it was clear that they are a very accomplished duo with a rock emphasis to songs that would have proudly taken a more folk rendition if someone had the inclination to take them down that route. As it was, they delivered songs that I was familiar with in an acoustic manner and they did it very well.
It was clear that they had a natural affinity with the audience which was assisted by Bruce’s between song banter. Jamie let his playing do the talking as he showed that he was no junior partner in the duo when it came to knowing his way around the fret board. He was very impressive.
Finishing the set with a Skids number, The Saints Are Coming, they paid tribute to their past band member, the late Stuart Adamson. But a Skid’s number at a Folk Festival….it was odd but it worked.”
