About The Caron Keating Foundation
A family run charity in Caron’s memory to support all types of cancer causes
Caron was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 1997 when she was in her mid 30’s. At that time, she was a much loved TV personality, having presented programmes such as Blue Peter, This Morning, Top of the Pops and Entertainment Today. She was happily married with two young sons, Charlie and Gabriel. After her diagnosis, she valiantly spent the next seven years fighting and managing the disease through a wide range of orthodox and complementary cancer treatments. Her experiences were vast, and the support she received during that time, second to none on all levels.. Caron learnt so much about the disease during her worldwide search for knowledge fromBritaintoAustralia, toSwitzerland, as did her mother, Gloria Hunniford and indeed all the family. Tragically, Caron lost her tenacious battle with cancer in 2004 and subsequently the family set up a fund in Caron’s name – The Caron Keating Foundation – which gives grants to all types of cancer charities.

‘GET ON THE GUITAR’ AND FOLLOW BIG COUNTRY VOCALIST MIKE PETERS’ LHS MISSION TO ISRAEL
On Wednesday October 2nd 2013, I will be travelling to Israel to give my support to an incredible lady named Dr. Amal Bishara who has been single-handedly running an Arab Donor Registry in towns and villages throughout Israel.
The registry is doing phenomenal work and despite a serious lack of funds, Dr. Amal and her supporters have managed to sign up over 20,000 individuals and find 24 matches that have resulted in both Arab and Jewish lives being saved. It is powerful symbol of hope in a region divided, bringing together families and people through the act of saving lives.
The registry (which began in 2008), just about has enough funds to do one more drive, which they are hosting in Nazareth while I am there, so I will be helping out and singing songs while Dr. Amal and her supporters conduct a donor drive for a patient who needs a life saving transplant. I’m sure it will be an emotional experience.
I want to show Dr. Amal that the good news of her work is finding it’s way into the world and to organisations like Love Hope Strength who’s mission, is to help those who do not have access to the same medical resources as we have in our own communities.
In the USA and UK, our LHS donor drives are funded through a partnership with Delete Blood Cancer. This is not the case in Israel where it costs $45 to tissue type each individual and is the main reason for their lack of funds.
I’m not sure how we are going to show our support yet, which is another reason for me going there, but I want to share my thoughts with you at this early stage, as it is my hope that Israel will be the destination for our next major international ‘Rocks’ event.
I will be writing about my experiences online throughout the length of my 5 day visit to Israel and would very much welcome your thoughts and feelings on whether you, yourself, would be prepared to travel with me to Israel in the name of Love Hope Strength 2014, and help raise funds to support the Hadassah Registry, help save lives and send out a message of peace, love, hope and strength to the world.
You can even take part today by sending an email to me at email@example.com and I will write your name onto the guitar I will be playing at the drive in Nazareth on Sunday and show everyone who attends (and the television cameras who will be covering the event), that I come with the support of others.
Please stay in tune with the Love Hope Strength website, facebook page, instagram and twitter feed, as Jules and I will be posting images and movie clips of our experience as they occur.
As part of our ongoing mission, the Love Hope Strength team is striving to unify the way individual registries in other countries are run and administered, and we will be campaigning on this message at the World Cancer Congress in Australia in December 2014.
I look forward to hearing from you while I am in Israel and seeing you all on The Land’s End to John O’Groats UK tour…

On Saturday September 7th 2013, on our second annual climb to the summit of Ben Nevis, a brave team of LHS trekkers lead by Big Country singer Mike Peters, set off to conquer Ben Nevis on behalf of the Love Hope Strength Foundation…
“If at first you don’t succeed, try again:
Mist and rain you should not heed, try again;
When the clouds have rolled away,
And the sun holds glorious sway,
Climb the path without delay, come again,
All your labours he’ll repay – grand old Ben.”
The day began outside the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre at 4.30am which is located near the foot of the mountain at the start of the Ben Nevis Mountain Track (also known as The Tourist or Pony Route), which was our path to the summit. This early start followed a gentle get together the night before in a local hotel in Fort William for registration and team-bonding purposes.
There was also be an opportunity to sign up to the bone marrow register at the Love Hope Strength Desk, run by LHS Volunteers, Lydia Franklin & Anna, Dave Spragg, Andy Labrow, Steve Webster, Caroline Fraser & Brian Finnie…
The hike to the summit (4,409 feet), took approximately 4 hours. The early start has been recommended to us by the local authority to avoid the crowds that usually follow later in the day. (This year’s event also coincided with the Ben Nevis Race which started at 1300 hours at which point all walkers needed to give priority of way to the runners). As a show of Love Hope Strength solidarity the team wore articles of green clothing which is our visible colour of hope and well being. Green is the colour recommended to Mike when he consulted a faith healer after his first cancer diagnosis in 1995.
The green Love Hope Strength Flag) was carried by LHS team leader and Volunteer, Dave Spragg at the head of our walking group and the group made good progress on the ascent despite the brutal weather conditions on the summit… Mike grappled with his guitar on his back which turned into a sail! How everyone managed to stay on their feet was a miracle! Special thanks to Alarm fan and friend, Ade Parker, who transformed himself into Mike & Jules’ Sherpa as the conditions worsened towards the summit. Finally, the team made it to the top and the ruins of the old observatory building were dusted in snow!
The descent took around 3 hours and most of the team managed to descend by 1pm in time for a celebratory drink at the Glen Nevis Inn. The LHS trekkers were treated to a breathtaking rainbow as they made their descent, avoiding the many walkers now ascending the busy route. With a few hours for a bath and quick snooze, the team reassembled at 7pm back at the Fort William Hotel for a post climb ‘gathering’ of conversation and music. The evening was such a special time with the whole team, bonding over their achievement of the day. Mike treated everyone to a very personal acoustic concert, taking requests of all kinds and no-one really wanted the evening to stop…
Funds generated by the LHS Trekkers participation in Ben Nevis Rocks will go towards supporting cancer care in the Highlands and the Love Hope Strength ‘Get On The List’ bone marrow donor campaign.
On Sat, 14th September, Mike and Jules will be joined by over 150 trekkers to summit Snowdon. Here is a link to a TV segment on ‘Heno’ which aired this eve on S4C, featuring Family Peters conversing in Welsh and discussing the climb ahead
“Copa’r Wyddfa: yr ydych chwi, yma, Yn nes at y nefoedd / The summit of Snowdon: Here you are nearer to Heaven”.
Love hope and strength, September, 2013

Available in store …. and selling fast!!!
Due to a flurry of last-minute registrations for this weekend’s Love Hope Strength charity fundraising event, Ben Nevis Rocks, it has been decided to keep the registration open until mid-day on Friday.
Big Country singer Mike Peters is thrilled that so many supporters have committed to the climb already and after being away in the USA for so long, is looking forward to spending some quality time on the mountain with everyone. An informal reception for all participants both before and after the climb will take place at a hotel in Fort William on both Friday and Saturday evenings.
Conversation, music and inspiration should be in abundance with everyone committing to wearing an item of green clothing on the day. Even the weather looks like it will be in our favour!
For those still interested in joining in at this late stage please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07814 404877 to register.
NB: There will be limited edition Ben Nevis Rocks T-shirts available before and after the actual climb itself.
The journey tour has blazed across the UK, Europe and the USA. The band have been blown away by the reception from the fans, the personal connection with the audience and the new friends made.
Did you come and see the band on The Journey Tour? Did you take any photos?
We would like to compile a fan photo gallery from The Journey Tour for the website.
They can be from any sort of camera or phone camera, the quality isn’t too important, just capturing the Journey how you experienced it. They can feature the band, or you with the band, or you at the show. Anything you like.
Please send no more than 6 photos to email@example.com. We will publish as many as we can with a credit to the photographer. Submissions are open for one week, until Monday 9th September, and we will publish the gallery soon afterwards.
And as a taster, the featured image for this post is a snap taken at Southampton on The Journey Tour by Mike Peters of Mark Brzezicki during the show.
